Maybrey Casts the Black Renaissance Sculptures

Maybrey Precision Castings is proud to have produced the silicon bronze castings for Black Renaissance, a series of five monumental sculptures by artist Rayvenn Shaleigha D'Clark, commissioned by the Equal Justice Initiative for the Freedom Monument Sculpture Park in Montgomery, Alabama.

The castings were produced using 3D printed sand mould technology, pioneered by our team at Aylesford to achieve the intricate surface detail that D'Clark's work required. Each of the 52 unique casting segments was produced from a printed sand mould created directly from the artist's digital files. The use of silicon bronze was both an aesthetic and a technical decision: its weldability makes it ideal for large-scale work cast in sections, and its patina gives monumental sculpture its permanence.

Assembly and finishing were carried out by Millimetre, West Sussex, before the sculptures were shipped to Alabama for installation.
