Meet the team

Maybrey is its people. The craft of foundry work is passed on through experience: from apprentice to chief metallurgist, from the fettling shop floor to the managing director's office, and now from one generation of the Hills family to the next. The expertise that makes our castings reliable cannot be certified or automated. It is earned over years at the furnace.

Our core team has an average tenure of over fifteen years at Maybrey. Some have been here for decades. Between them, they carry the institutional knowledge of every process, every alloy, and every customer relationship the company has built.

Leadership

Doug Hills

Doug Hills began his working life at Maybrey in 1959 as an apprentice draftsman, and has spent the six decades since in the casting industry. After gaining foundry experience at Cape Foundry in South Africa and Stone Foundries in Woolwich, he founded Hills Diecasting in 1979. Following its sale, Doug returned to the sector and took over Maybrey in 2001, leading the company as Managing Director until 2022, when he became Chief Executive. Doug is also a director of the Caro Group of Companies.

Andrew Hills

Andrew Hills trained as a sand moulder at DSC in Charlton before joining Reliance Foundry in 1995. He was part of the team that navigated the 2001 merger that created the current Maybrey, taking on Sand Casting Sales roles before becoming Sand Foundry Director in 2004 and then Managing Director in 2023. Andrew is the son of Doug Hills and has worked in the foundry trade his entire career.

Sam Hills

Sam Hills studied Business Management at Henley Business School before joining Maybrey as a Management Trainee in 2023. He was appointed Business Development Manager the following year. Sam is the third generation of the Hills family in the foundry business: grandson of Doug, son of Andrew. The continuity he represents is not incidental. Long-term customer relationships are built on exactly this kind of consistent, family-led stewardship.

Dave Lowe joined the Caro Group in 2004 from the telecoms industry, progressing from accountant to Finance Manager in 2006 and Finance Director of the full group in 2011. In 2021, Dave was appointed Group Managing Director of the Caro Group of Companies — a role he holds alongside his position as Finance Director of Maybrey Precision Castings.

Operations

Lee Stunt

Lee Stunt joined Maybrey in 2012, beginning on the fettling shop floor before moving on to control Heat Treatment. He became Dispatch Manager in 2017 and, when Maybrey relocated to its current Aylesford site in 2020, was appointed Works Manager for the whole facility. Lee's progression from foundry floor to site-wide operations management over twelve years is the kind of career development that defines how Maybrey develops its people.

Sales

Steve Hanscombe

Steve Hanscombe joined Maybrey straight from school in 1980 as a Trainee Estimator, beginning a career at the company that now spans 46 years. He progressed through Sales Administrator and Sales Manager before being appointed as a Company Director in 2021. Steve is one of two members of the current team who have been with Maybrey for more than four decades: a level of continuity that reflects the company he has helped to build as much as the loyalty he has shown to it.

Quality

Neil Watts

Neil Watts joined Maybrey in 1981 as an apprentice moulder. He moved into the quality department in 1987, trained as a metallurgist in 1989, and became Chief Metallurgist in 1992. When Maybrey and Reliance merged in 2001, Neil took over as Quality Manager and led the company through its AS9100 aerospace certification, the standard the foundry has maintained without interruption ever since.

Forty-five years at the same company is unusual in any industry. In the casting trade, it means something specific: Neil is the institutional memory of every alloy, every specification, and every quality system Maybrey has operated to across five decades. The unbroken aerospace approval that is central to Maybrey's identity as a supplier exists, in no small part, because of his work.

Administration

Gabi Stram

Gabi Stram came to the UK from Miedzylesie in south-east Poland in 2008 and joined Maybrey in 2014 as an Admin Assistant. Over the following years she progressed through Head of Administration and Office Manager before taking on her current role as Office and Purchasing Manager in 2020. Gabi's oversight of both office operations and purchasing makes her central to the day-to-day running of the facility.
